Originally released in 1992, this albums is the gold standard of the Megadeth legacy. Solid, riff-roaring tracks rattle and shake listeners ears on Countdown to Extinction. You’re either Team Metallica or Team Megadeth. Regardless of where one stands with either band, Countdown to Extinction and Youthanasia are prerequisites for any raw, headbanging experience. Megadeth released several albums which put them at the forefront of the genre, giving them an edge and a divided audience, giving respect to either Metallica or Megadeth for their musical contributions to the metal genre. Getting ousted from Metallica lit a fire under his ass, so to speak. It was only a matter of time until he reached the apex of his career with Metallica, and Megadeth would have emerged from the metal mire, but, I doubt he would have been as dead-eye on his success. His time in Metallica demonstrated his strength in writing and as a guitarist. While a huge blow to the ego, Mustaine did what any strong character would: forge on and create his destiny. One of the most well-known stories about Dave Mustaine and his time with Metallica was his discharge from the band. Dave Mustaine knows a thing or two about turning the other cheek.
